Dr Andrew Madeiros

Veterinary Surgeon and Owner

Andrew Madeiros, DVM was born in Bermuda and is the driving force behind Ettrick Animal Hospital. He has been the sole owner of the hospital since 2000.

Having graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1987 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Madeiros worked for 3 years as small animal veterinarian for a mixed practice in Ontario.

He returned to Bermuda in 1990 to work for Ettrick, doing small animal and equine work. He was very active with the Bermuda SPCA for 25 years and is past president of the Bermuda Veterinary Association.

In his spare time, Dr. Madeiros enjoys boating, gardening and travelling. He has a keen sense of humour and is popular with staff and clients alike. The animals are fond of him, too!

Mary Barnes

Business Manager

Mary is Bermudian and started working at Ettrick in 1977 as a student for the former owner, Dr James. At that time, the hospital was in the basement of Dr James house. Mary then went on to work mainly in the insurance industry, a career that spanned over 20 years. However, her love for animals meant that she also volunteered and worked for the SPCA during this time. In 2000, Dr Andrew Madeiros purchased Ettrick Animal Hospital and having worked alongside him years before, Mary became his unofficial and unpaid helper! One year later, Mary left the insurance world and joined Ettrick as the Business Manager, a position she has now held for 19 years. A challenging role but one that she greatly enjoys, Mary’s responsibilities include stock control and inventory amongst many other areas. Outside of work, Mary enjoys traveling, cruises and she has a great love for London, UK.

Jen Busby

Head Nurse

Jen moved to Bermuda in July 2023 to work with us as a nurse for six months – she has fallen in love with the team and Bermuda, so much so that she has now moved into the position of Head Nurse, and depending on who you ask, will be here for the next 20+ years! Prior to Ettrick, Jen worked within the specialist referral Veterinary hospitals in the UK and has extensive nursing and management experience (over 20 years… but we don’t tell anyone that!!). Jen specializes in anesthesia and analgesia and has achieved her Veterinary Technician Specialist status in this area. She works closely with the veterinary team to ensure all the little fur-babies get personalized pain and anesthesia plans to keep them comfortable and safe during their visits with us. She also has further qualifications in emergency and critical care, as well as veterinary cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Jen loves teaching and supporting all the teams in the hospital to ensure each two- or four-legged creature that comes through the doors receives the best care and support we can offer. In her spare time, Jen enjoys water aerobics, cross-stitching and can be found on any of the Bermuda beaches enjoying the sun, sea, and sand!
